The ups and downs of homebuilding in Italy

The house before

The little house in need of TLC before the odtrc-saga occuredI know it doesn’t look much from the outside, but this was one seriously cool house. As soon as I walked inside it, I fell in love. As did mum and dad, who were over here on holiday. And M who doesn’t normally see the appeal in properties that need lots and lots and lots of work.

Here’s why my little house that is no more after the odtrc saga was so special:

1)Underneath that seriously hideous facade, were the orignal granite blocks that the house was built with. We were planning to strip it back and return it to its original glory.

2) It had a really happy vibe about it which you felt as soon as you went in the front door.

3) It was south-facing and positioned such that the sun was on it all day from sunrise to sun set. Even with just two tiny windows downstairs, the rooms were still imbued with light at 7pm.

4) The house was actually two apartments so we would be pulling down that rickety external staircase and putting in an internal one. And that balcony running the width of the house was going to be replaced with a terrace and balconies so that all of the bedrooms had their own outdoor space.

    Ciao Emma

The house still looks gorgeous even with its current facade, it will look seriously amazing when you strip it back. It’s going to be a lot of work, but it will be well worth it! Can’t wait to see more photos! And progress stories.

Well, obviously, the house is no longer there! Sob! But I’m hoping we’ll still be able to recreate the feel and character of the original.

Will post some more photos once I get onto the other computer.

    Ciao

    Hi Tove

No worries. I am so not stressed. I find sitting in a bar sipping a frothy cappuccino and looking out at the sea is a great remedy.

Love lots to all of you
