After walking just over 35 minutes in the rain to the Posta to pay the bollo (car tax), I found out that as of this month, you can no longer pay at the post office. This isn’t a problem except for the fact that the nice, helpful man at the post office counter could have told me this yesterday when he handed me the form I needed to pay the tax at, indeed, the post office.
It meant I ended up driving into Arzachena to pay it. Of course, I couldn’t resist parking outside my little house, or rather where my little house used to be before the odtrc saga and the roof came tumbling down. Sob.
Someone in the know yesterday offered to get us residenza at our house in Arzachena by talking to the right people at the town hall. But it seems a bit of a farce to me. After all, you are not allowed residenza unless you live in a place – and the local police do come knocking on your door to check. How could we possibly live in a house that doesn’t exist?
I know local police in Italy are renowned for being a bit stupid, but I think even they would have trouble pretending to knock on a door that wasn’t there.
